The Flavour Club

The Flavour Club

Another great food box on the market but this time highlighting some of the best food and drink Spain has to offer. Maria Marcos Fernandez is passionate about the food from her place of birth and now she’s living here in London, she wants to share it with us all. It helps her parents still live in Spain and between them this family business is steadily growing, bringing traditional Spanish food and wine to a larger audience from small independent producers who you may not get to experience, even if you visit the country.

The Flavour Club costs the same price each month, no matter how long you sign up for, although the longer you subscribe, the more discount you’ll enjoy on the wine cases you buy in addition to your box.

The Flavour Club box

Each month the contents change and for November I was treated to a box full of things I absolutely adore.

Yllera Cinco 5 Verdejo Frizzante wine is a light, sweet white wine with apple notes and made from 100% vedejo grapes from the Rueda region of Spain. It was way too sweet for my palate, a little
similar to Italian sweet white, think Asti and Lambrusco but with 5.5% alcohol. I served it as an ice-cold aperitif with some meats and Parmesan and a couple of my guests really enjoyed it. This would work well with any rice dish, salad, charcuterie or a chocolate dessert.

We also snacked on the large bag of Picos as we sipped the Frizzante. Served with every meal in some parts of Spain, this particular company hails from Seville and the breadsticks are handmade with olive oil.

Box contents

The Piquillo Pepper Confit is simply roasted peppers, sugar, salt and olive oil, and is perfect served with cheese and cold meats.

Red Pepper Confit

This pot is a versatile one and will spice up the dullest meat and fish dishes. It comes in a pretty round jar that you’ll want to find a use for when the sauce is finished so a great little product all round. The company. La Cuna Conservas, is an artisan producer from Toledo, 70km south of Madrid.

The ‘Just Married Wild Asparagus and Pumpkin Risotto’ is a great post-work throw together and you can have a dish on the table in 15 minutes – all ingredients are 100% natural and preservative-free.

Just Married Risotto

The bottle of Almazara del Ebro Extra Virgin Olive Oil completed the box. Almazara del Ebro is a co-operative in Navarra and the oil is made with 100% Arbequina olives. These olives are hugely popular because of their super high-density plantation.

Olive Oil

The cultivar produces high concentrations of oil and is ideal for olive oil production, harvesting is easy as the trees are low to the ground providing ideal conditions for hand-picking. Buttery, fruity and mild another great dip for your picos, all organic with no fertilisers or pesticides used in the olive production.

The Flavour Club boxes costs £48 per month which includes delivery and may initially seem a little steep but the Club only source artisan products which are of a decent quality so you’ll be sure to get value for money.

The Club source wines too to pair with the food in the boxes, again from different regions of Spain which include red, white, rose, sparkling, dessert and semi-sweet wines. If you like a particular bottle, then special case prices are on offer with additional discounts for Club members.
