Yes. It’s a thing. Brussels Sprouts on a pizza with a generous drizzling of truffle oil. It’s the time of year when Pizza Express launch their Christmas menu.
There’s a fair bit of choice, including this two course option with a glass of fizz.
Starters include pork and pancetta croquettes with sage, served with an apple and cider sauce. A hot smoked salmon rillette is served with a warm flatbread.
The pizza menu features the Romana thin crust, with a roasted Persian spiced lamb, mozzarella and spicy tomato sauce, finished with chopped tomatoes, red onions and fresh parsley. There’s also a Brussels Sprouts roasted with garlic and rosemary, pancetta, mozzarella, red onions, mushrooms, pine nuts, tomato and a free range egg finished with shaved Gran Milano cheese and fresh parsley pizza. I had the Brussels and truffle pizza and whilst the ingredients were a little mixed up, they totally worked.
If you’ve room for dessert you should try the Snowball Dough Balls, nice and light, sprinkled with cinnamon and icing sugar, served with a vanilla cream dip.
Salted caramel profiteroles are stuffed with salted caramel cream and covered in a crunchy salted caramel coating which are dipped in double cream. The torte has a crunchy biscuit base topped with a chocolate and orange ganache and is served with a choice of cream, mascarpone or ice cream.
To get you into the festive mood there’s a hot winter berry spiced sloe gin on offer, served with a slice of lemon.
I couldn’t convince my dining partner to indulge but the classic menu never fails to deliver. Old school.
It’s a given that at Pizza Express you know you’ll get a great meal and whilst the pizzas are a little on the pricey side, find yourself a voucher deal and it’s great value for money.
The tiramisu is booze-laden and a treat at any time of the year, rich mascarpone and fat Italian sponge fingers are soaked in Masala wine with just the right amount of coffee.
The staff and service at the Victoria branch got full marks from us.
The bill for two, excluding service and using a 25% voucher discount on food (found on the Pizza Express website) was just over £20 a head but that included two large Peroni.
I was given a £30 voucher towards the meal by Pizza Express.
